Long Grain Brown Rice Pilaf with Garlic Chips

Brown rice differs from white rice in that it is a whole grain. That means it has the fibrous bran, nutritious germ, and carbohydrate-rice endosperm. Brown rice requires a longer cooking time than white rice.
The ratio of water to brown rice is 2 1/2 cups of water for 1 cup of brown rice. You can cook the rice in broth instead of water using the same ratio. To cook brown rice, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the brown rice to the boiling water. Partially cover the pot and boil the rice for 30 minutes. Drain the rice then return it to the pot. Cover the pot and wait 20 minutes before removing the lid and fluffing the rice.
To prepare brown rice in the microwave, put 1 cup of rice and 3 cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high for 10 minutes then reduce to 50% power and cook an additional 20 minutes.

Cooking instructions are to heat butter in a pan with a tight-fitting lid. Add the rice, cook about 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add in water, salt, and pepper and simmer for approximately 45 minutes or until liquid is absorbed. At this point, you can stir in garlic chips for added flavor. Do not lift the lid during cooking time. After 45 minutes remove the pan from the stove and let the rice rest for 10 minutes. Then fluff with a fork.
